One-to-one, non-medical

Companion support

Reliable company for part of the week — conversation, shared activities and a familiar face that helps the days feel less isolating.

What companion support can include

  • Regular visits for conversation and company at home
  • Shared activities: a walk, a coffee, cards, gardening, hobbies, music
  • Going along to appointments, shops or community events as a familiar presence
  • Encouragement to keep up routines and interests that matter to the person
  • Staying in touch with family about how visits are going, when the person wants that

Who it may help

People who spend most of the week alone, adults whose social circle has narrowed, and families who live at a distance and would like someone dependable checking in. Companion support is not about filling time — it is about a genuine, respectful relationship built around what the person enjoys.

Our scope and how we work

Companion support is non-medical. Support workers do not provide nursing, counselling, therapy or clinical care. Where more hands-on assistance is needed, attendant care may be the better fit, and household tasks can be covered through homemaking support.
